💛 Sub Gigs

Subbing is an important part of keeping our groups supported and our experiences running smoothly. This page walks you through how to request a sub, being on call, picking up sub gigs, and what to expect when stepping in for an M&G or a series event.

🌿 Requesting a Sub for Your Series

We now have a new sub request process! Guides can request subs in the Guide Portal by clicking on the day you need a sub for, scrolling down, and clicking "Request a sub": https://guides.therealroots.com/

Note: You can only request a sub for your series — this feature is not available for other guiding gigs (e.g., meet & greets or lead guiding).

Important: Guides are expected to be present for their Closing Experience with the group. If you are not able to make it for your Closing Experience week, please email [email protected] so we can explore options together!

✍️ Signing Up to Be On-Call for Sub Gigs

Available on-call slots appear inside the Guide App. Or you can sign up for any openings using this link. They are claimed first-come, first-serve — no approval needed.

You may also receive SMS texts for opportunities when we need a last-minute sub. Keep an eye out for those too!

Please only sign up when you are fully available. We rely on your availability when scheduling, so always double-check that the time works before signing up.

Payment for subs:

• You earn $10 for being “on call” (even if you’re not called in).
• If you are called in, you’re paid the normal guide rate + dinner credit.

You may not:

• Sign up to sub if you’re already working another gig that day.
• Sign up to sub in multiple cities on the same date (ex: Upper + Lower Manhattan).

👋 If You’re Called In to Sub

Once you sign up to be on call, you may be called in to sub for either:

• Meet and Greet
  • If you’re subbing an M&G, review the M&G agenda;
  • Check in with the lead guide (or with the guides if you are the lead);
  • Even if you’re subbing for a lead role, you may still be needed as a guide — so please be available for the full event.
• Series Event
  • If you’re subbing for a series, review that week’s agenda;
  • Make sure you’ve received the funds for that week’s activity;
    • If you did not receive it by the Monday before the event, email [email protected]
  • Post a short intro message in the group so gals know a sub will be guiding that week.

❗Confirming Your On-Call Gig (Action Required)

When you sign up to be on call, you must confirm your on-call gig 48 hours before:

1. Open the gig marked “Action Required.”
2. Tap Confirm.
